Restaging the Past: The Story of Historical Pageants

16 May 2023

Digby Hall, Hound Street, Sherborne, DT9 3AA

Sherborne Museum hosts a screening of a new documentary film from Kings College London and the Windrose Rural Media Trust exploring the story of historical pageants in Britain. This colourful movement began with the famous Sherborne Pageant of 1905, created by the extravagantly named Louis Napoleon Parker.

Join us at the Digby Hall from 7.15pm for a complimentary glass of wine and lightrefreshments. There will be a chance to see a small pop-up exhibition featuring original costumes, photographs and ephemera from the Sherborne Pageant, now cared for by the museum. At 8pm the screening will be preceded by short talks by Professor Paul Readman (KCL) and Professor Mark Freeman (UCL), and afterwards a Q&A session will be held with the film makers.

Admission to this event is free but donations in aid of Sherborne Museum are welcome. Booking is essential to reserve a seat and will help us greatly in keeping track of numbers. Please register your interest via Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/604829249567. Tickets are also available from the reception desk at Sherborne Museum.
